How to pick up and carry your iMac G5

Posted in Work on January 24, 2007 by kaylow

From Apple’s official support documentation: How to pick up and carry your iMac G5.

“Don’t know how to pick up and carry your iMac G5? It’s easy.

Before moving your computer, make sure all cables and cords are disconnected.

Pick up the iMac G5 by grasping both sides of the computer. Carry it to wherever you wish.”

I’d really like to meet the person who needs this.

Clearing out the clutter

Posted in Work on January 23, 2007 by kaylow

As part of my effort to improve my writing, I bought On Writing Well by William Zinsser this afternoon. William addressed “clutter” right away, and I decided to de-clutter my most recent post at The Parenting Post. What follows is the opening paragraph as posted at The Parenting Post

Brand New Ed Van Halen clip

Posted in Spirit on January 22, 2007 by kaylow

Here’s a clip of our old friend Ed at the Fender stage at this month’s NAMM event. He’s giving a demo of the brand new 5150 amps, and dare I say, he sounds good! Much better than that house of petals bullshit. Pay attention and you’ll hear him play the intro to Hot For Teacher, one of my all-time favorite Ed solos.

If this is how Ed is sounding these days (he seemed sober, too), then I will gladly saw my left arm off to see VH w/Dave this summer (I’ll just ignore Wolfie).

And with that, the Dems lose in 2008

I am a life long, die-hard Democrat. With that in mind, I’d like to personally thank Hillary Clinton for ensuring that the Republicans will win in 2008.

Fantastic guitar video

Posted in Spirit on January 21, 2007 by kaylow

As some of you may know, I was a musician in my former life. I went to Berklee and everthing. When I was growing up, and especially now that I’m older, I get very aggervaged when I hear popular musicians say things like, “Man, I never had one lesson! I can’t even read music! I just pick up my axe and wail, man!” This sends a negative message to young students, specifically: You don’t have to practice, or learn your theory, or study songwriting or even interact with other musicians in order to become one yourself. This, as I’m sure you know, is bullshit.

Drag and drop an iCal event into Stikkit

Posted in Work on January 15, 2007 by kaylow

I’m a real fan of Stikkit, the Web 2.0 version of Sticky Notes. Basically, it lets you quickly and easily store and retreive info on calendar events, contact information, simple to-do’s and action tracking. Here’s a cool tip from the Values of n Blog: easily Drag and drop an iCal event into a Stikkit note. Very cool.
